Windows Azure

On September 18, 2013 the class went to Hodges University in Fort Myers, Fl to attend a half day demo session for Windows Azure. It was the first time that we heard of Windows Azure and we went to their demo presentation to see what Window Azure is. What the class learned is that Windows Azure is a cloud computing platform that deploys and manages application and services through Microsoft managed data center.

During the presentation they mentioned that Windows Azure provides different services. one of the services they went through was Virtual Machines and cloud services. With Virtual Machines you can create a Windows Server over the cloud. Instead of waiting for months to build your own server for the company you can make one virtually in less than 4 minutes. A user can try out Windows Azure for free for a 1 month trial so one can get familiar with the system. The best part is if one want to invest in Azure they can pay what they need no contracts.

To create a simple virtual machine all one has to do is click on the create virtual machine or click new on the bottom. After that you go to compute, virtual machine and click on quick create after that all you have to do is make a DNS name, create a username , make a password and assign regions. All that take takes less than 4 minutes.

Make sure to select the correct region so the information is not scattered in different regions. And one of the features that Azure provides both hardware and power redundancy on their data center. If a hard disk fails another will have the backup and start running automatically. If the data center loses power for any reason the information will go to the nearest data center and it will be stored there until the data center were the information was originally located at gets its power back. The only thing the user has to provide is the programs they are going to use on the virtual machine. Another factor that is Azure is helpful for is that if there is a new software that a company wants to use in conjunction the user can make a virtual machine with the other software to see how the different software will react to one another before using it in the company.

Azure also provides services on making your own websites, cloud services for backup, and even mobile services. For making a website it will provide the tools one needs to make the website for company or even for the community. Near the end of the presentation they used power shell to raffle copy of Windows Server.  A power shell  is almost similar to command prompt but as one of the presenters said " its like command prompt but on steroids".  Knowing power shell is important because as an IT professional the can control and automate the administration of the Windows operating system and application that run on Windows. If you want to know more bout Windows Azure feel free to visit the Windows Azure Website.

A few things that I learned from making my personal growth plan are the steps needed to accomplish your goal. These steps are important because they’re a reminder in thing you have to do to meet the goal.  Also if you give yourself a time line in when to complete a goal you are more determined in to complete it. Making a date when to meet your goal is also like a job task given to you at work.  Sometime they will give you a certain time to complete it and you need to stay focused to complete the job.

Company Name

When starting a business there are many things to consider one of them is the name for the company. If i were to start a computer company it would be named Rene's Computer Tech but i would like for everyone to remember it by RC TECH. This way it will be eraser for people to remember the company. Every company needs a website so i went go to godaddy.com to get a domain name. I wanted my domain name to be rctech.com unfortunately it was already taken. I decided to type the company’s entire name as renescomputertec.com and it was available. Looking for available domain name wasn’t really difficult if one can’t think of another domain name godaddy gives you available domain name that are available with the name you want. Making the logo for the company was the second step and Microsoft Publisher and Paint did not help me out in creating a good logo. I searched for websites to create my logo until I found logoease.com which is free online logo software. The software was simple to use good for anyone who wants to make their own logo. On the bottom of  my post is my logo for my company if I want to start one in the future.

Leap Motion Controller

Imagine if you could browse the web or use games with just using your fingers with Leap Motion Controller it’s going to be possible. This new technology lets you use all ten of your fingers instead of using the mouse. When I first looked at the article in CNET I thought to myself that this technology is not going to be very accurate. As soon as i read it they mentioned that it’s accurate to the hundredth of a millimeter. I went to Leap Motion's Web Site to find more about it and i fond out you could do much more than browse the web. Leap has apps for its Motion Controller to play games, make art, design, and so much more.

One store that’s going to sell Leap Motion Controller is Best Buy and you can preorder it for $80 which doesn’t sound too bad. The Leap Motion is .5 inches High, 1.2 inches in width, and 3 inches in depth much better than a mouse that you have to keep moving around. Leap motion compatibility is Windows 7 or 8 or Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (minimum requirements: AMD Phenom II or Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor; 2GB RAM; USB 2.0 port; Internet connection). If some ones commuter doesn’t meet up with these requirements there not going to be able to use it this is the only drawback. I know for a fact the people are not going to buy new computer or laptop just to get the motion controller.

If Leap Motion gets really popular it’s going to make the mouse go obsolete. Probably later on in the future computer and laptops are going to have Motion Controllers already installed in them. Since the Leap Motion is really accurate maybe some gaming system are going to incorporate Leaps technology to their consuls. I know I’m going to preorder the Leap Motion Controller to try it out myself and make a review of Leap Motion Controller. All they need to do know is try to figure out how get rid of the keyboard.
